Maternity Reflexology

What is Maternity Reflexology

A specialised reflexology treatment during pregnancy which naturally supports the mother and the growing baby. Maternity Reflexology is aimed at women during pre-conception, pregnancy, labour and the post-natal period. It aims to rebalance the bodies systems during this time of emotional, hormonal and physiological changes.

Research has shown that regular reflexology during pregnancy may shorten the period of labour.

Many Mums-to-be are turning to reflexology to ease some of the discomforts during pregnancy

Common maternity areas to rebalance:

Endocrine System

to support hormonal balance

Reflex Lymphatic Drainage

to help prevent swelling in feet, legs and hand

Stress

to aid relaxation and well-being,

Thyroid

to support metabolism

Heartburn

to help rebalance the reflexes associated with heartburn

Digestive System

to rebalance area associated with bowel function

Circulatory System

to encourage and rebalance the system related to blood pressure

Preparation for birth

to stimulate the reflexes in preparation for labour (after 40 weeks)

Moxibustion

Moxibustion technique to help turn a breech baby - usually carried out between 34 - 38 weeks of pregnancy. The Moxa stick is held over the acupressure point bladder 67, which is situated on the bladder meridian line at the base of the little toe. The meridian or energy line is then stimulated and links to the uterus in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), thus stimulating the meridian and producing a warming and tonifying effect that triggers the hormones to relax the muscles in your uterus and help the babies energy to turn itself naturally. The moxa stick is then taken home with full instructions and demonstration of the technique needed for the next 7 to 10 days. (always check with your midwife before booking a moxibustion session for a breech baby)

Treatment time is 50 minutes, with the first treatment being a little longer as a full consultation is taken. and asked to sign a confidential consent form. Although reflexology can be used safely throughout pregnancy a full medical history is taken to ensure that it is appropriate to carry out the treatment
